About These Collections
After the Quran, the primary source of Islamic guidance is the Sunnah — the recorded words, actions and approvals of the Prophet ﷺ. Over the second and third centuries after the Hijrah, scholars travelled across the Muslim world gathering these narrations and developed a rigorous science for grading the reliability of every narrator in every chain.
This library holds the four Sunan collections and the Muwatta of Imam Malik — the earliest of them all — together with the Forty Hadith works that have long served as the starting point for students. Each narration is shown with its Arabic, an English translation, Urdu where available, and the gradings published with the source, so you can see how scholars have assessed it.

What are the Kutub al-Sittah (the six books)?
The six books are the collections Sunni scholarship relies on most: Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan Abu Dawud, Jami at-Tirmidhi, Sunan an-Nasa'i and Sunan Ibn Majah. The two Sahih collections are on the Hadith page; the other four are here, along with the Muwatta of Imam Malik.
Why do some narrations show a grade like Sahih or Da'if?
Unlike the two Sahih collections, the Sunan works deliberately include weaker narrations so that scholars can study and judge them. Each narration here shows the gradings published with the source edition, so you can see how it has been assessed before acting on it.
What is the difference between a hadith and a hadith qudsi?
In a hadith qudsi the Prophet ﷺ conveys the meaning of what Allah said, but in his own wording. This is distinct from the Quran, which is the exact revealed word of Allah in both meaning and wording.
Where should a beginner start?
The Forty Hadith of Imam an-Nawawi. It is short, deliberately chosen to cover the foundations of the religion, and the most widely studied hadith text in the world.
